Prior to going to sleep, CG caught the late weather report: freeze warning in effect for the area, with a low of 27 degrees. CG was thinking that he should have done more to protect the newly leafed plants. But it was too late in the evening to find more blankets or other insulators.
This morning, CG dreaded going outside. He knew that if the crepe myrtle by the garage door survived, everything else would be ok, too. If it was a blackened and wilted mess, it would definitely sour the entire 'looking forward to spring' mantra.
The crepe myrtle looked fine. Second check- the fragile california poppies (about 6 of them have been living in water bottle igloos for the past few weeks) -they survived.
The burning bushes are still thriving (major relief)
Sweet: The tartarian honeysuckle bushes are continuing to bloom
(one of the few remaining plants from the previous owners)
and the iris are still doing their thing
and, of course, the indestructible daffodils are still going strong!
