Bog Planting Area

The bog planting area is enjoying its first-ever blooms!

The two different varieties of Louisiana Iris have really taken-hold.

 Maybe a later-blooming variety will be added in the future.

 But these still have at least another week of color.

CG is very pleased with the results.

 By late July, August, CG will have to divide these

and have some to trade/give away

(will be looking-up this variety of L.Iris)

Rainy Walk Around

the iris are having much more favorable blooming weather

(unlike what the daffodils had to endure)

lots of blooms per stem (and nice color) on this iris

diminutive iris blooms paired with newly

emerged crepe myrtle leaves

-possibly the last hooray for the daffodils- 

big, bold color 

 possibly a re-bloomer

 Gingersnap iris are at the front of the sidewalk

 the durable 3 for $5 Wal-Mart iris are a good match with 

the burning bush backdrop

 (siberians would be nice in a solid mass- not quite there yet)

 (forgot the name of these)

Gingersnap iris do indeed have a light, refreshing

root beer fragrance

Iris blooms are beginning to be the center of attention in the garden

 although blues and purples are not well received by CG,

a few have proven to be highly photogenic 

 a fun, whimsical bloom

with the feng shui boulder nearby,

 this iris plant has developed excellent mojo

 the front corner river birch planting area-

perhaps CG will have hundreds of iris blooms this season

(front yard looking at the sidewalk with the front door to the left) 

the liriope border is gaining strength,

nandinas have lots of new, bright-green growth,

and, on the opposite of the sidewalk, last Fall's $1 daylilys

have fully filled-in their area 

(still have daffodil blooms in the backyard!)

Fall Iris Planting

Good deals and tolerable weather!

Sam's Club had a limited selection of iris, but no complaints: one pack of 4 iris cost $4.88
(and both types are reblooming!)

CG is always looking for more and different varieties of iris. Fall is the best time of year to plant and divide them, so local stores are thoroughly searched and compared. CG also reviews photos taken during the spring to identify areas that need to be planted, and patches of like-color iris that need to be divided.

Japanese Iris*

The Japenese Iris are now blooming in the front bed amongst the river birch trees. CG has never seen them bloom before, nor does he remember planting them. They might have bloomed last year while he was away on a business trip.

Now, CG is able to be at home and see the garden -almost everyday!

(there's that 'one weekend a month' deal)

there was a 10 minute window when the sun came out this morning

we've had days upon days of rain!

the plants are loving the rain, but more breaks of sunshine would be most welcomed

there's probably a dozen of these iris blooming with more still budding

these plants are Louisiana Iris (not sure how or why these were initially identified as Japanese iris, but they are of the Bold Pretender variety)
