Preparing for a late freeze

Yeah, just when everything had greened-up. The low temp tonite is predicted to be 29 degrees. CG covered-up a few small forsythia with buckets, and a half-dozen california poppies with plastic water bottles. The burning bushes, crepe myrtles, and river birch are at risk for some heavy damage. After a late freeze a few years ago, it took more than a few weeks for the plants to recover. It's difficult seeing well-tended, thriving plants transform overnight into blackened and wilted wrecks. CG would like to load-up on the m'cycle and take off on a 2 week road trip to avoid having to see the inevitable botanical horror!

Road Trip?

The Daffodil Principle is one of the more widely-circulated 'web-tastic' stories. Fact, fiction, or embellished yarn, it is a powerful reminder that single-handed determination can be continually enhanced and pronounced by the wonder of nature.

CG would like to gas-up the m'cycle and give a first-hand (via 3rd person) account of the story's validity, but then he would miss-out on close to a week of goings-on and chores in his own garden.

Roadside plantings of wildflowers and bulbs do not require mowing.
Not only are these areas more aesthetically pleasing, but they save state governments millions of dollars in personnel, equipment, and fuel costs.
Green roadside plantings are great!

Blue Ridge Parkway

If planning a road trip with flexible dates, bloom times for scenic highways can often be found online. One of the nation's most scenic drives is the Blue Ridge Parkway. It runs from Virginia into North Carolina. CG would thoroughly enjoy a motorcycle ride down a quiet twisty road, but there's work to be done in the garden.
